Royal Air Force Squadrons

The first RAF squadron to be formed was No. 1 Squadron in 1912. Followed almost immediately by No. 2 and No. 3 Squadrons. As the years went by more squadrons were formed with the RAF probably being at its largest during the 50s and 60s. As the years have gone by numerous aircraft types have been withdrawn from service, making the RAF at this time the smallest for many years.
