Spitfire 90th anniversary – Tuesday 7th April 2026

The round Britain Spitfire90 project is celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Spitfires first flight on 5th March 1936, at Eastleigh Aerodrome near Southampton, with a flight around Great Britain
The two-seat TR9 Spitfire operated by Spitfires.com is painted in the same light blue paint scheme with the same serial number as the prototype Spitfire K5054.

The Spitfire was escorted into RAF Coningsby by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flights Dakota and Spitfire AB910 at the end of the first leg of the flight.

The above image, a pair of McDonnell F-15J Eagles, escorted by a RAF Coningsby Typhoon.

The arrival of the pair of F-15s, was preceded by the C-2 transport aircraft arriving, the first on the 17th of September. The second arrived after the F-15s the following day.

The Canadian Lancaster arrived at RAF Coningsby on August 8th 2004, just after a downpour which put paid to a flypast with the BBMF Lancaster, which was the original plan, so it was a straight in approach, then a tow to the hangar.
